As a surface pattern project, Alabama Chintz was inspired by the flora I experienced seeing growing up in the wooded areas on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Chintz is an Anglicized term and later interpretation of Indian floral printed fabric motifs popularized during the 17- and 1800s.
Fowl River Flora – Inspired by the favorites flowers of the matriarchal figures in my family.
Fignalia – Summer meant harvesting countless figs from the enormous fig tree in my grandmother's backyard. The tree was and ecosystem within itself: birds, caterpillars, ladybugs, and grandpa spiders. A bacchanalia, but with figs.
Wild blackberries and thyme grew alongside the dirt road that lead to my grandma's house. Walking with her and picking berries is one of my fondest memories.
